FaceBook user—you? I'm excited about one of their more recent changes—don't you love the 5 little picture crops that are at the top of your page now? I do—except some images don't crop well, and many don't have much impact at that small size. However, you can control what's displayed there. Maybe you already have figured that out, but if not, I'll show you how. And if you're already controlling it, have you considered that you can create images that specifically are intended to show up there? You can really push your brand if you use FB for business, or simply choose some fun photos of you and your family that look really great in the small spaces.
I'm using my own business FB page to show you how you can do this on your own personal or business page.
Create 5 or more images. The size of each picture box is 97 x 68 pixels. You can use photographs and crop them to this size, or create graphics, or do both. Keep in mind that while you can control the images that display in the 5 boxes, the order is random each time your page comes up.
Next, upload the cropped images (click "Photos" in the left menu under your profile picture; then click the "Upload Photos" box at the top right of the page. I created a new album for them since I intend to create and add new ones all the time).
Once they're loaded, you can add captions if you want to, you also have the option of publishing the pictures to your wall—I opted not to (by pressing the "Skip" button) since mine are simply graphics, not photos of people. Once you're finished with captions, Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page. You will be prompted again if you want to publish the images to your page or Skip.
NOTE: If you are doing this on your personal page, (not a business page like I showed here), you need to tag yourself (only you) in each of the photos you want to display in your photo bar, or they will not show up). Now go back to your main page, and because they are the newest uploaded images, your 5 pics should be in your photo bar!
Remember, when you add more photos to your page, the newest photos will show up in the photo bar, but all you have to do is click on the "x" that appears in the top right of the picture box until only the ones you want are there. Have fun customizing your own page!
